Education in the Ava Area

 

 

Ava Public Schools

Ava Schools offer a comprehensive program serving children grades pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Located near the center of Douglas County, Ava has the only public high school in the county. The 120 member certified staff serves approximately 1,650 children. Special programs serve students with unique needs and abilities. Special education classes mainstream children as much as possible and are available K-12. The Ava school system is rated Triple-A by the state of Missouri.

Elementary School emphasizes the basic subjects of reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Library, art, music and physical education are a regular part of the curriculum and are offered to each child on a weekly basis. (417) 683-5450

Middle School has a state of the art computer lab for 7th and 8th grade students. The lab has 30 IBM compatible computers networked via a file server with the high school lab. It also has an Apple computer lab for 5th and 6th grade students. (417) 683-3835

High School students have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of classes. An emphasis is placed on the core curriculum with over 100 units offered at the high school which include many vocational classes as well as college prep courses. Rural Area K-8 Schools

Douglas County is also the home of two K-8 schools that serve our rural communities to the west and east of Ava.

Plainview School staff serves approximately 107 students and is located 19 miles from Ava on West Highway 76.

Skyline School staff serves approximately 95 students and is located 17 miles from Ava on East Highway 76.

Private School

Mt. Zion Bible School

The Mt. Zion campus, just a few miles north of Ava, offers a well-rounded pre-school thru 12th grade education.

Qualified teachers and staff complement the Mt. Zion Bible School experience. Home schoolers are welcome and have found the Music and Physical Education program beneficial to their study qualifications. This also has afforded them and our regular students, social interaction which is important in a private school setting. Colleges

Drury University Ava campus serves students living throughout Douglas, Ozark, Wright, and other surrounding counties. On the average, over 400 students a year are working toward a variety of undergraduate degrees, through a combination of evening and online classes. The Drury staff at the Ava office offer academic advisory, financial aid assistance, and career counseling.
